Cherished locally across Buganda and wider Uganda as Obukupa, are premium tropical corms flourishing in our fertile, moist soils. Two beloved varieties: creamy white and soft pink-fleshed types, both with rough, earthy skin that peels away to reveal smooth, dense flesh. When thoroughly cooked, they turn wonderfully soft, velvety, and subtly nutty with a delicate, gentle sweetness far creamier than ordinary potatoes. Exceptionally nourishing: packed with easily digestible complex carbohydrates for steady energy, rich in dietary fibre, vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, potassium, and essential minerals naturally gluten-free and gentle on digestion. Both the tender corms and nutrient-rich young leaves are valued boiled, mashed, added to stews and groundnut sauce, or sliced and fried into golden crisps  a wholesome, traditional Ugandan treasure, loved for generations.
